Google Maps

Before mobile phones and WiFi the only way to get around without getting lost was with a paper map or a guide book. I still use maps and research new places with maps, mostly online now.

So on my recent trip to the Balkans I did use a paper map but also started using Google maps on my phone. In airplane mode using WiFi I would check the map of the place I was in, the map stays on your phone after you are not using WiFi. When walking around cities it’s easy enough to login to WiFi in a restaurant or many public places and shopping malls and update the map. I found Google maps to be very handy when walking around new cities.
