During my time in Albania I stayed in the capital Tirana and Berat a city with a large fortress on top of a hill. Driving around the countryside you will notice concrete bunkers all over the place. Drivers in Albania do not follow the rules, stopping at a stop sign or red light is optional, so be wary crossing the street. Tirana the capital has the monuments and museums, it’s worth visiting for a day or two. The old city of Berat has a fortress overlooking the city, it’s worth walking around. One of the managers in a restaurant at the fortress where we had lunch, was having a bad day and we could hear him shouting at the staff, it was like something out of the old British show Fawlty Towers. For a good view of Berat city and a place to have a drink or a meal, try Antigoni Restaurant a short walk just over the bridge.
